Pratiğini resim, tiyatro ve senaryo yazarlığı gibi farklı disiplinlerle geliştiren Sümeyra Çetin, insan psikolojisiyle ilgileniyor. Kişilerin bedeninde veya davranışlarında dikkatini çeken psikopatolojik süreçleri derinlemesine araştırarak öznel bir izdüşüm olarak sunuyor.

Samsun/Terme isimli çalışma, bir ailenin hüzünlü hikayesini video, fotoğraf ve ses yerleştirmesi üzerinden anlatıyor. Ailenin evinde çekilmiş fotoğraflar; 10 çocuğunun 7’si ölen ve bakıma ihtiyaç duyarak yaşayan, ailedeki travmanın aktarılışına dair ipuçları veriyor. Anne-baba ve sağlıklı büyüyen iki kardeş arasındaki sorumluluk ve yük paylaşımının detayları, ailenin gurbetteki üyesi Cemil’in çocuğuna yazdığı mektupla gün yüzüne çıkıyor.

Sümeyra Çetin, who has developed her practice in different disciplines such as painting, theater and screenwriting, is interested in human psychology. She explores in depth the psychopathological processes in people’s body or behavior that draw her attention, and presents them as a subjective projection.

The work titled Samsun/Terme tells the sad story of a family through video, photography and sound installation. The photos taken in the home of a family that has lost 7 of their 10 children and has one in need of care give clues about the transmission of trauma in the family. The details of the responsibility and burden sharing between the parents and the two healthy siblings come to light with the letter written by Cemil, the expatriate member of the family, to his child.
