Gökhan Çiçek’in fotoğrafları, en geniş anlamıyla ‘ideal güzellik’ kavramını sorguluyor. Konu, kadraj, pozlama gibi fotoğrafın belkemiğini oluşturan öğelerin tümünde ideal olarak kabul gören normların dışında bir tutum sergileyen Çiçek, bakma eyleminin adeta tamamını yakalamaya çalışıyor. Ortaya çıkan fotoğraflarda, yalnızca kadrajın değil, ışık ve gölgenin de sıradışı kullanımının farklı bir estetik anlayışa olanak verdiğini gözlemliyoruz. İzleyiciyi şaşırtarak popüler kültürün dayattığı görsel ve düşünsel alışkanlıkları sorgulatan imgeler; beden, kimlik ve mekan algısını da yeniden düşünmeye davet ediyor.

Gökhan Çiçek’s photographs question the concept of ‘ideal beauty’ in the broadest sense. Çiçek, who exhibits an attitude that is outside the accepted norms in all the elements that make up photography, such as subject, framing and exposure, tries to capture almost the whole act of looking. In the resulting photographs, we observe that the unusual use of not only the framing but also light and shadow allows for a different esthetic understanding. Images that surprise the viewer and make them question the visual and intellectual habits imposed by popular culture also invite a rethinking of the perception of body, identity and space.
